Methane storage lab
Explore how material choice and operating pressures change the methane available for delivery.
Methane uptake at 298 K
Operating window
The shaded pressure range is the operating window. The vertical difference between each curve’s endpoint markers is the methane available for delivery.
Working capacity
Subtract the methane retained at delivery pressure from the amount held at fill pressure. Values are cm³ of methane at STP per cm³ of crystal.
| Framework | At fill | Retained | Delivered |

Measurements and calculation
Points are experimental total volumetric methane uptake digitized from Figure 3b. Lines interpolate linearly between adjacent points. The controls stay inside all four measured pressure ranges. Results describe an isothermal pressure swing on a crystal-volume basis. Packing voids, heat effects and tank hardware affect real tank delivery.
